A tomato-based sauce for brushing or serving alongside BBQ.

Equipment
Saucepan; whisk; stovetop
Timing
About 30 minutes including prep
Yield
Approximately 3 cups

Ingredients

Tomato sauce: one 15-oz can Cider vinegar: 1/2 cup Honey: 1/3 cup Tomato paste: 1/4 cup Molasses: 1/4 cup Worcestershire: 3 tbsp Liquid smoke: 2 tsp Smoked paprika: 1 tsp Garlic powder: 1 tsp Black pepper: 1/2 tsp Onion powder: 1/2 tsp Fine sea salt: 1/2 tsp Cayenne: optional pinch

Let’s get cooking.

1. Whisk everything together in a saucepan until the tomato paste is incorporated. 2. Bring to a gentle simmer, then lower heat. Cook uncovered for 10–15 minutes, stirring regularly, until slightly thickened. 3. Taste and adjust the optional cayenne. Serve warm or cool promptly and refrigerate in a covered container. Use within 1 week; this is not a shelf-stable canning recipe.
